Editorial Review / Publisher's Information:
Product Description An audio edition of the best-selling guide to personal computers provides novice PC users with the latest information on computer hardware, software, and computer applications. Read by Dan Gookin. Book available."
Amazon.com Review Explaining the fundamentals of personal computing to those who would rather read words than look at pictures, PCs for Dummies tells you everything you need to know in order to use an IBM-compatible PC running Windows 98. Dan Gookin's prose is technically astute and fun to read. This isn't the book for you if you're looking through a computer catalog and wondering what all the jargon means (Buying a Computer for Dummies covers that). Rather, this book will help you when you've gotten the machine into your home and you need to know what to do next. Starting with the process of unpacking the box and plugging in all the cables, this book shows you what to do with your new machine. After assembly is out of the way, Gookin shows you how to get around in Windows 98 (and Windows 95, which is almost identical). He explains concepts like files, directories, and applications, and frequently explains the exact procedures involved in common tasks like adjusting screen resolution. Once you've heard all about the basics, Gookin goes on to explain modem configuration, printer problems, productivity software, and a fair amount about Internet use. --David Wall

Pc's For Dummies Is Ancient History
07 April, 2009
Like many computer books listed on Amazon this thing is a Dinosaur. Many of the other books listed were written in the '80s and '90s. This one tells you how to operate in a Windows 98 environment. Good Grief! Does Microsoft even support that system anymore? The point is any computer book like this isn't worth the paper it's printed on if it's more than a year or two old. Why does Amazon even list this stuff?

For Scardy Cat Computer Users

I gave this bok to my son, who is very techno challenged. He started with the first pages, actually understood the cartoon type illustrations and now has an e-mail address and has actually used the computer on several occassions with out trembling. What more can I say. It works, and is well worth the price.

Pcs For Dummies

There are several PCs for Dummies books but I believe this one is likely the best. I've used computers for over 20 years and find this book gives all the tips, tricks and shortcuts that I may have never been aware of or fogotten. It's a great refresher and reference source no matter how basic or advanced the computer user is.

Bought this book when I was still in college for Information Technology. I quit. I'm keeping the book as a reference book. Haven't read it yet.
