 • A Great Companion Book For A Great Series!
09 May, 2008

I loved the Knight Rider series and was really glad to get this book. I would highly recommend it for any KR fan. It contains a lot of behind-the-scenes stuff and a great episode guide for the entire series. If you collect episode guide books(and I have several myself)this is one you'll want to add to your collection.

 • Knight Rider Legacy - An Overview
31 December, 2008

I must admit I feel rather conflicted about writing this review but I think it's important to point what works and does not work with this book. This is a fair and unbaised review here. What I enjoyed most about reading KRL is that it's very informative about the story of Knight Rider and how the show came together. It also does its best to tell the story of the show from season to season, attempt to attempt by utilizing the words of the cast and crew who put each incarnation together from the original pilot through the last attempt (during this time period) called Team Knight Rider. While I found the information in this book very inciteful to read, there is no escaping that this book by design for readers is meant to "tell" you the story of Knight Rider as a novelization rather then "experience" the story of Knight Rider through an inclusive manner. With that being said, as a guide book it's not very well organized and it's very hard to track down specific things you are looking for such as questions and answers with specific cast members or crew. My biggest complaint is with the lack of listing of episodes by season although it may be assumed if you are a die hard Knight Rider fan you should already know which season has Knight Moves, Speed Demons, Knight Flight to Freedom, and so on. I didn't care for "author" commentaries in the episode guide because quite frankly if its an episode I haven't seen yet it ruins the surprises of what is to come. If you have already seen the episode, or are looking up one of your favorites then you should be fine. For me, as a fan and an average reader I found myself enjoying the many facts and trivia that is found throughout the book but when it came to look specific things up when I was watching episodes on TV it was very hard to isolate specific information that I wanted to find quickly. Everything is sort of jumbled together. While there is a clear break up of chapters, it seems like the same subject matter crosses from one section to another when it should be more isolated and grouped together. Visually speaking it's a paperback book, it feels like a book, it reads like a book...but not a guide book. The only complaint I see consistantly mentioned is the lack of pictures and the lack of picture quality. I agree wholeheartedly that if you're going to cover a topic with such visual language associated with it (like a television show) where the very iconography of David Hasselhoff and K.I.T.T. take center stage as a visual memory people have -- they need to be properly represented and clearly in this, they are not. The pictures are small, grainy, and cheaply printed. The layout is mediocre at best and let's face it, the paper is cheap, it's not even white making the images all the more difficult to see. It's quite clear this book was created just to get a book out there to cover a 27 year old show and for its time, it was the best option availible. With all that being said, I have taken what I have found lacking in KRL and created my own guide book to Knight Rider called The Knight Rider Companion and have provided everything that I felt this book lacked. You can find out more by visiting [..] It is not my intention to compete with Knight Rider Legacy but it is my intention to produce a book worthy of the subject matter being covered in our modern time and give fans another opportunity to learn more about the show in a more inclusive way. Some people can be "told" what Knight Rider is through a novelization style but others prefer to "experience" the story for themselves in an inviting and visually invocative manner...a format that engages the reader to get involved with it. Knight Rider Legacy presents its information in a format ultizing more narration than interaction. If you want to "read" the story of Knight Rider and pictures are not that important to you, by all means pick up Knight Rider Legacy. It's a great book to read if you're just getting into discovering the series and wish to know more about it. If you want something more visually exciting, pick up my book. (see official website for details) It might cost more but it is without a doubt the ultimate guide to original Knight Rider mythology and not just the story of it presented in a format worthy of the subject matter it covers.
