Product Description Celebrate the daring gifts of Anne Rice, writing as A. N. Roquelaure, with this beautifully repackaged boxed set of the three erotic novels in her acclaimed Sleeping Beauty trilogy.
Amazon.com Review Anne Rice casts her lurid gaze upon the the traditional tale of "Sleeping Beauty" under the pen name of A.N. Roquelaure. Her re-telling of the Beauty story probes the unspoken implications of this lush, suggestive tale by exploring its undeniable connection to sexual desire. Reminiscent of the charged erotica of her novel Belinda.

Very Violent 11 April, 2009 I was looking for some kind of romantic/racy adventure book...This is NOT it! The sexual violence and humiliation spewed across almost every page of the first half of the first book in the series was enough to stop me from reading any further. I'm a pretty liberal person and can usually laugh about crazy writing, but this just made me feel sick.

Anne Rice, Sleeping Beauty 23 February, 2009 Unlike all of her other books I have read these are a completely different experience to read. An erotic exploit of Sleeping Beauty, its a read you'll never put down.

Ridiculous. 25 May, 2009 I really wanted to like these novels. I'm a fan of BDSM, and spanking in particular, so why shouldn't I?
Primarily due to the sense of irritation and anger the characters brought to me. Beauty is kidnapped by a prince from a kingdom where they praise loudly the virtues and the strength that being enslaved brings, while of course never sampling such 'pleasure' themselves. Let's be clear; it's one nation apparently doing this to surrounding princes and princesses with apparently no resistance from said countries. I really think that would be nipped in the bud in short order. So first of all the premise is pretty stupid. Secondly, Ann Rice seems to have a very limited idea of how the male body does and does not work. To anyone who's read the books let me just say: male bits DO NOT WORK THAT WAY.
Consensual bondage, slavery, torture, humiliation and what have you I have no problem with. The spoiled prince taking people to this 'wonderful growing experience. (which he hasn't had) by force . . . and then ignoring biology while he's at it . . . that I have problems with.
And the final problem. Even the parts that I should have found enjoyable, divorced from the ugly context, were boring. Out and out tiresome, repetitive and poorly presented. Really disappointing.

... 16 June, 2009 There are so many things wrong with this book, right from page one.
Beauty's parents let her go with a prince when they knew she was going to be abused and degraded. I can't help but wonder why nobody ever ended up pregnant from all the sex that went on. And 99.9 percent of this sex is not even consensual, and some of the things they engage in were actually dangerous - like being suspended from a beam, or never being allowed to walk and forced to crawl on hard stone floors, which would leave their knees in ruin at the end of their tenure.
According to the story, hundreds of Princes and Princesses are captive at the Queen's palace, while children of lords and ladies become slaves at noble houses. This is illogical, there never was that many at any given time, this would mean an huge expanse of kingdoms - all who could unite against the Queen and end her wicked practice.
I find it hard to believe that the parents of these slaves would all just hand over their children, fully aware of what happens to them. What kind of parent would allow that?
This slavery is supposed to make slaves better, and their tenures are supposed to be temporary. But apparently, some slaves can get sent to the village indefinitely - such as Prince Roger who was there for YEARS and could stay for even longer because he is the younger sibling in a royal family and thus isn't needed back home, so he could even become old and still be a naked slave. What is that. honestly?
This slavery, according to the book several times, is supposed to teach the slaves patience, humility, etc. There are far better ways to teach that than strip these poor TEENAGERS of their dignity. This experience has shattered Beauty. We know nothing of her character to start with - whether she was modest, chaste, loving, kind, whatever. But we do know that her character takes a downward spiral.
After her release, she is unable to interact with people normally. Instead of a Prince who truly is a Charming and will heal her from the trauma she has suffered, she is instead taken by a Prince who will only further degrade her. No happy ending for Beauty, alas.
